|Carmarthenshire Energy: generating and saving energy for the benefit of our communities.||
Solar photovoltaic panels harvest sunshine and convert it to electrical energy. It’s an increasingly well known technology, and can be seen at all scales in Carmarthenshire, from 4kW systems on domestic rooftops, to large, multi-megawatt scale arrays on south facing slopes of agricultural and brownfield sites. Solar photovoltaics currently deliver around 1% of the electricity generated in Wales.

Our first successful project, in August 2012, was working with Carmarthenshire County Council to deliver a 10kW system at Richmond Park School. With support from us on tendering for a contractor, achieving building regulation certificates and the Energy Performance Certificate required for the building, the Council was able to install the system in time for a crucial funding deadline under the Feed in Tariff rules. Although this system wasn’t funded by a community share offer in the end, we had pledges to the tune of half the system cost, showing the enthusiasm local people had for sharing investment in the scheme.
